On to my 3rd 8-sentence snippet of Night’s Treasure for Weekend Writing Warriors! This is a snippet of a conversation between Morpheus, the god of dreams, and his daughter Poppy.
– 3rd Snippet Night’s Treasure –
“No one can accuse Hermes of theatricality,” Morpheus snorted in amusement.
The woman laughed, her voice lovely and airy but human like Sophy’s.
“At least he’s not so bad as Eros, forever playing tricks on everyone,” she stated. “And I would gladly take Hermes’ theatricalities and flirtations before having to endure Dionysus’ breath. He reeks of sour grapes!”
Morpheus laughed. “Fermented grapes, my dear,” he corrected her.
“Fermented or sour, he smells disgusting!”

Love the characters! And the dialogue is great 🙂 A good twist on gods. Great snippet!
Thank you 🙂 I love Poppy. She’s one of the few characters who made it through every revision.
I actually looked these gods up on Wikipedia XD I used to be very into Greek mythology as a teen. This is cute :3 The characters are very likable, and I love Morpheus’ sense of humor, and then his daughter’s dismissal of it XD It’s a cool concept to think of the Greek gods gossiping like humans. I imagine there was lots to gossip about given Greek mythology. Looking forward to next week ^^
hehehe That’s awesome that you looked the gods up! If you want a lot of info on them, http://www.theoi.com is the place to go. Before I found Theoi.com I scoured Wikipedia for every scrap of information I could find for the lesser known gods. I was such a nerd as a kid that I thought my dad’s 2 interactive encyclopedia discs for our IBM were games. I knew they were encyclopedias but I had so much fun learning about Greek mythology that I’d literally spend hours “playing” with the encyclopedias looking up info, printing it, watching videos of it all, looking at the pics. hehe Nerd Alert! lol
I always thought it was interesting that the Greek gods were so human. The men seemed to be driven by inordinate amounts of testosterone and they could be shamed and get on the defensive and act without thinking. Of course, because of that you wouldn’t want to point out their failings or you might get turned into a spider. Too awesome! 😀
🙂 “sour grapes” I like it! I feel the same way about “dry” wine. Can’t they just call it “bitter” and be done with it. lol. Very smooth dialogue…Good 8.
Yeah, I don’t have much taste for red wine. I see why they describe it as “dry” though – because it makes my mouth pucker and scream for water! It’s as if it strips the moisture from my tongue and then I can’t produce any saliva. But, yeah, it’s just another word for “bitter” it seems. hehe
Thank you! 😀
Sour grapes vs fermented grapes? I’ll take fermented every time, ha! Fun repartee!
Hehe No kidding. Me too! Thanks 😀
A different but fun little conversation among the gods, enjoyed this snippet!
Thanks 🙂 I enjoyed writing it…in every revision. Hehe
Nothing worse than stinky Dionysus breath…funny : )
Have you smelled someone’s breath when they’ve been drinking and you haven’t? Stinky! Super stinky! Ick! Hehehe
A delightful take on the Greek gods.
Thank you 🙂 Hopefully the rest of the gods will be good as well. 😉
