Book Cover Artists + Cover Reveal

Early in January I was finally able to update my cover art for Night’s Treasure. I was so excited! I meant to announce it here but looking back I see that I forgot. But that’s okay because it’s not like it was a new book or anything.

Here’s the new cover made by the oh so talented Ruxandra Tudorica (MethyssART)…

Click on the art to buy Night’s Treasure by Kathryn St. John, available on Amazon for $3.99

I love it! It’s soooo much better than what I did myself. If I had had better graphic artist skills (mine are next to none), I would’ve bee happier with how mine turned out but I could not get past the grey blur around the silhouette. It ruined the whole thing for me!

My friend and fellow author, EarthGirly, won a premade from Ruxandra and gave it to me (having only entered because she had thought it would be perfect for Night’s Treasure). I was ecstatic!! Truly ecstatic. Three days later it was personalized for me and gracing Amazon as the new cover of Night’s Treasure!

In the delirium of my euphoria, I joined Ruxandra’s Facebook group (Methyss Art Premade Covers – the group is closed so you need to be given permission to get in) and have one future commission appointment set for August and then fingers crossed for other covers. If you’re interested, take a look at her page. Her work is beautiful and she’s so nice, patient, and friendly!

Through her I also found Ryse’s Cult. The artist there is Jennifer Munswami (J.M. Rising Horse Creations).

Holy. Freaking. Cow!

That’s all I have to say about her work. When I found out I had won a giveaway from her (amazingly gorgeous artwork that another author won in an auction plus a bunch of other stuff), I was so excited I started tiptoeing around and squealing (tiptoeing because that’s my version of jumping around, and squealing because it was 6:30am and I didn’t want to wake anyone up by screaming). Every time I thought about it for the rest of the day I’d get all giggly and start tiptoeing around. People around me would just laugh.

That day was absolutely exhausting.

Here’s some recent cover art of hers that’s been released…

Click on the art to preorder the book Soul Bound by A.J. Flowers

The auction for this cover got intense toward the end. They usually do. This one was won by A.J. Flowers. Soul Bound by A.J. Flowers is available for preorder on Amazon for $4.99.

Jennifer is pretty much booked till the end of time (only half kidding), but there are always last-minute cancellations and premades you can try your luck with so pop on over there too if you’re an author who loves quality covers. Or maybe you just want to oogle her work or buy extra swag or create brand artwork for yourself (not sure if she’s available for that right now or not), etc.

There are more but those are the main two I’m crushing on right now. Totally stalking and not ashamed.

Book Review – Dark Tempest by Annette Marie

Book review time! Just so you know, I don’t generally give long, complex reviews so don’t expect something with lots of big, literary words. I’m all about keeping it simple.

Dark Tempest (Red Winter Trilogy Book Two) by Annette Marie

dark-tempest

Oh my holy freaking cow!! I am so in love with this series! Some twists that happened weren’t surprising for me because they had been in the back of my mind the whole time in that “Wouldn’t it be cool if…” kind of way. And then BOOM! I was right and it makes me so happy. ^_^ lol

Once again Annette Marie has woven an exciting, fun tale following Emi’s journey. She was given a mission from Amaterasu at the end of book 1 and now journeys to see it through. I giggled and laughed, held my breath, felt excitement and worry and frustration and, of course, sadness. I’m definitely emotionally attached to these characters.

Annette Marie changes relationships so gradually that I hardly know it’s happening until it’s commented on by one of the characters and then I’m right alongside Emi in her realization that it’s true. Just like real life when things change so gradually we don’t realize they’ve changed until it’s pointed out to us and we take a step back and go “Oh!”

Her take on the mythological details and how they might look/act/etc is so creative! Quite ingenuous in my mind. I’m right there along with everyone else waiting with bated breath for the 3rd book.

I’m just going to add in one last thing that has nothing to do with the book content…OMG! Look at that COVER! It is GORGEOUS!!! When I get my covers redone some day, I want mine to look as freaking awesome as hers do. I’m in love with them!

This author is quickly becoming my author idol. Seriously. An indie author who’s doing a fantabulous job. Definitely my idol. I know who I wanna be when I grow up! wink face tongue

Psyche is a retelling of the Greek myth of Psyche and Eros (some would argue it’s Roman but I believe it’s interchangeable and I prefer the Greek names so…).

~*~

Psyche is a beautiful maiden reaching the end of her cultural prime. She is flattered and worshiped by men everywhere, but has never received an offer of marriage and despairs she ever will.

Eros is the god of love. He lives to inspire love between mortals and give them their “happily ever afters” but has yet to find his own goddess with whom he can share eternity.

Aphrodite, the goddess of love and Eros’ mother, is jealous of Psyche’s beauty and the love she inspires in mortal men. For this reason, she sends Eros to punish Psyche by making her fall in love with a hideous beast. When Eros sees her, however, he falls in love and risks his mother’s wrath by taking the mortal for his wife.

When a foolish act of doubt separates them, Psyche must gather her courage and find strength to fight for their love and reunite them once more.

~*~

If you do decide to get it and read it, I would greatly appreciate a review. Pretty please! It’s my bread and butter!

Weekend Writing Warriors / #8sunday / 02/12/17

If you want to read other writer’s work, meet those writers, or participate yourself, stop on by Weekend Writing Warriors. Every week writers get together here to share their work, published or unpublished.

My 8-sentence excerpt this week is from my newest release – Psyche. It’s the first novella in the Myths of Olympus series.

——– Psyche ——–

“Surely you will not deny that your presence there would attract more men to her worship.  What goddess would refuse such an offering as that?”

“And if the men come to place their worship at my feet instead of hers?  What then?”

“Then they are fools and she will curse them.”

Psyche sighed and bent over to rest her head on her mother’s knees.  “I feel she has cursed me in their place,” she admitted. … “What have I done to anger Aphrodite so that she would deny me love?”

Weekend Writing Warriors 10 – Psyche

Weekend Writing Warriors | #8Sunday | 2/5/17

If you want to read other writer’s work, meet those writers, or participate yourself, stop on by Weekend Writing Warriors. Every week writers get together here to share their work, published or unpublished.

My 8-sentence excerpt this week is from my newest release – Psyche. It’s the first novella in the Myths of Olympus series.

——– Psyche ——–

“Sir, it is not proper,” she protested in a gentle voice, her eyes cast down and away as was expected of her.  “If you would speak to my father….”

She let the sentence die away unfinished, knowing he wouldn’t act on the suggestion.  He was not yet a man to look for a wife and she would no longer waste her time catering to his infantile delusions.

He stood, his body awkward with his sudden luck at having touched her skin.  Psyche noticed the bulge under his tunic a moment before he did and averted her eyes, determined not to look at him again. He saw her reaction and felt the difference in his body, had the grace to blush.  Clasping his hands in front of him and hunching over to hide his disgrace, he pretended to give the requisite bow and save his dignity.

——– End of snippet ——–

psyche-1This snippet happens early on in Psyche as we’re being introduced to her and her situation. This boy-who-would-be-a-man triggers the events to come as Aphrodite happens to catch a word or two…or sentence…at the time of his speaking before he touches Psyche’s hand. Needless to say, this does not make her happy.

If you haven’t figured it out already, this book is my version of the ancient Greek myth of the love between Psyche and Eros (or Cupid for all the Roman mythology people out there. Actually, I want to call this a Roman myth as it came from a Roman story but it seems a Roman told a Greek story and it can be interchangeable (if you adjust the names of course).

Just so everyone knows, Psyche (Myths of Olympus Book 1) by Kathryn St. John is available as an ebook on Amazon for $0.99. Happy Reading!

Psyche – a Myths of Olympus novella – RELEASED!

My newest novella, Psyche, is now available on Amazon for 99 cents!! I’m so excited about this because it was so fun to write and, not so very deep down, I’m a sucker for romance. This novella tells the Greek myth of Psyche and Eros.

Love isn’t always easy. Life doesn’t fall into place to suit your love. Sometimes you meet someone and fall in love and nothing stands in the way so you get married (if you want to). Other times, you love someone whom you can’t marry for whatever reason. Perhaps it’s a cultural thing, perhaps it’s a job thing, perhaps it’s a location thing. Whatever the reason, you can’t stay with the person you care about so you part ways never to see the other person again. Your lives are too different.

Other times, you’ve somehow incurred the wrath of a goddess and, well, you’re screwed.

This standalone novella is the first book in the Myths of Olympus series. Be forewarned that it is not suitable for people under 18 due to a sex scene (it is touching on the Romance genre after all).

Psyche by Kathryn St. John is currently available on Amazon for 99 cents ($0.99).

Reviews are GREATLY appreciated!!

Psyche – Coming February

Editing is almost done. It’s pretty easy with this story considering I knew exactly what I wanted to write. Of course, tweaking is always necessary to get rid of superfluous sentences, correct inconsistencies, and fix typos. That doesn’t take all that long though so 2 days into editing and I’m already over halfway. Yay! My goal is to be finished by Friday and publish on February 1st.

Yep!

Psyche will be released February 1st, 2017!

Yay! Cheers all around!

Here’s the cover:

psyche-1

It hasn’t changed much from when I introduced it as a cover choice before. I liked it quite a bit already and only changed the size of the font and the placement of my name/series title.

Again, I can’t take credit for the picture. It came from Comfreak on Pixabay.com. Check out his page if you’re interested in seeing more of his work. He has some awesome graphics!

Be sure to pick up your copy of Psyche when it comes out February 1st! It’ll be selling for $0.99. Just 99 cents.

Psyche by Kathryn St. John.
